What is it?
APEL allows you to have all your previous experience, academic and otherwise, assessed for accreditation towards a degree qualification. It can allow prospective students exemptions from modules in the degree programme, up to a maximum of 12 modules.
Who can apply for APEL?
Nutritional Therapy dipoma holders
Other healthcare professionals
Honours graduates with modules in any of the following: Nutrients, Biochemistry, Physiology, Business Skills, Pathology, Media
Those with NLP Practitioner qualifications
Students on existing Nutritional Therapy diploma courses who wish to link into the degree programme
How to apply for Module Exemptions:
1. Develop a Portfolio of Evidence that will be accredited by Middlesex University.
2. Apply to CNELM direct for specific module exemptions
Achieving Module Exemptions
To achieve exemption from a module, applicants must demonstrate three quarters of the specific Learning Outcomes for that module. Sometimes this may require a little extra work and CNELM can assess applicants for the work they might need to undertake to achieve the required three quarters, without having to take the whole module. Degree holders may be given a direct exemption of a module e.g biochemsitry if the degree held is in this subject.
What is a Portfolio of Evidence?
Building a Portfolio of Evidence can be a very rewarding way in which to reflect upon all your experiences since leaving school and to review how they might match with the Learning Outcomes for each module that you are applying for exemption from.
Once you have registered with Middlesex University, the development of your Portfolio will be guided by CNELM. Tutors at CNELM will support you through the process and liaise with Middlesex University towards the accreditation of your portfolio.
Why upgrade to a degree anyway?
At CNELM, we believe that degree status will enhance the recognition of nutritional therapists. This should then lead to the widening of work opportunities and also increase our ability to be effective at a broader level, both nationally and internationally, in the years to come.
We hope that you will take this opportunity to become part of the process of improving the professional status of Nutritional Therapy.
