Kate Neil MSc (Nutritional Medicine) MBANT NTCC CNHC

I have been a nutritional therapy practitioner for twenty years. I am registered with the professional body BANT (British Association for Applied Nutrition & Nutritional Therapy) and the CNHC (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council). I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Prior to qualifying as a nutritional therapist I qualified as a nurse and a midwife and worked in the field of nursing or midwifery for fifteen years until 1985.

I first became interested in nutritional therapy when I was at home with three young boys under five who had mild to moderate asthma, eczema and hayfever. I was looking for natural solutions to manage their allergies. I was also feeling tired and needed more energy. In 1985 I trained to become a nutritional therapist at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition and along the way found meaningful solutions for managing allergies and fatigue. In 2002 I gained an MSc in Nutritional Medicine from the University of Surrey.

Now twenty years later I am running a busy nutritional therapy clinic as well as teaching, writing and directing CNELM that teaches undergraduate degrees in nutritional therapy validated by Middlesex University and postgraduate nutritional therapy courses accredited by Middlesex Universtiy. I am Editor of the professional journal The Nutrition Practitioner which has been published since 1999.

I have two specialist areas of practice and to an extent they are related. My days as a midwife has left me feeling passionate about children's health. There is no better time than before conception to maximise the health of the egg and the sperm that will unite to start the process of making a healthy baby. Preconceptual care remains the 'Cinderella' of nutritional therapy. Mostly couples seek help for fertility problems or after conception has occurred. Either way part of my practice is to support couples wanting to conceive and have a healthy baby.

Much of my work today is supporting parents with children that have learning and behavioral difficulties. ADHD and autism are increasing in society and this is a global issue. Many parents travel to my clinic from abroad including Nigeria seeking support for their children with autism. Access to laboratory tests to help design a support programme for their child sometimes necessitates a visit to the UK.

I wrote a book in 1993 that was republished in 1998 'Balancing Hormones Naturally'. I contributed a chapter to an professional text Biochemical Imbalances in Disease: A Practitioner's Handbook in 2010 that focused on Hormone Imbalance. In 2008 I contributed a chapter to Nutrition and Mental Health: A handbook on Blood Sugar Blues.

I see many women with female hormone problems including: fibroids, fibrocystic breast disease, breast cancer, PCOS and PMS. I also see clients with a range of other health problems.

Directing the Centre and supervising the student clinic means that I generalise as well as specialise. As the Director of CNE and leader of our degree courses maintaining my practice enbles me to share a wealth of clinical experience with our students.

If you would like to book a consultation with me then call on 0118 979 8686 or email kate@cnelm.co.uk I organise my own clinic diary as I organise consultations to fit in with teaching and other administrative roles at the Centre. Weekdays, some early evenings and some Saturdays are possible times for consultations.

I look forward to working with you and to support you to express health in a way that is meaningful for you.
